Show of strength by NDA CMs at meet on sidelines of Haryana govt. formation

17 CMs and 18 Deputy CMs attend the event; PM stresses on resolving people’s problems, says it is the first time that the oath-taking ceremony of the govt. in J&K was held as per the Constitution

After its victory in the Haryana Assembly election, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Thursday used the occasion of the swearing-in of a BJP government in the State to exhibit unity ahead of the Assembly election in Maharashtra and Jharkhand.

Presiding over a meeting of the NDA Chief Ministers’ Council, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed upon the government’s commitment to resolving people’s problems through governance.

He said in Independent India, it was the first time that a government had assumed office in Jammu and Kashmir in adherence to the Indian Constitution. In the past, the oath ceremony in Jammu and Kashmir was held as per the Constitution of J&K. This showed the power of the Constitution and the meaning of the dilution of Article 370, he added.

National progress
“Chaired a meeting of NDA Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers. We had extensive discussions on aspects of good governance and ways to improve people’s lives. Our alliance is committed to furthering national progress and empowering the poor and downtrodden,” Mr. Modi later said in a post on X.

BJP president J.P. Nadda told journalists that 17 Chief Ministers and 18 Deputy Chief Ministers attended the meeting, and the Prime Minister placed emphasis on governance. “The PM stressed that efforts should be on adopting a ‘pro-people, pro-active, good governance P2G2 approach to resolve issues,” he said. The meeting was an example of how the strong presence of the “non-Congress front” was important for the country’s development, he added.

Mr. Nadda said that six proposals were discussed and unanimously passed at the meeting. “In the first proposal, PM Modi was thanked on the BJP’s win in Haryana, which was achieved due to the policies of the PM… Farmers, youth and sportspersons, everyone in Haryana supported the BJP.”

Another proposal was on celebrating 75 years of the Constitution under ‘Samvidhan Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ in 2025, he said, adding that Union Home Minister Amit Shah proposed that in 2025, which marks the 50th year since the imposition of Emergency, programmes would be held “to expose all those who made attempts to crush the Constitution and how democracy was murdered with the imposition of Emergency”.

Mr. Nadda said deliberations on “Atmanirbhar Bharat” were held with regard to digital India and the steps towards a $5 trillion economy.

“Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu shed light on the progress we are making towards making India self-reliant. Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh talked about digital India while Deputy CM of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis highlighted key points about the economy,” he said.

Discussions on social, environmental, and health issues were also held.
